REPORTING TO: The Deputy Head, line manager for the Specialist Team
The Japanese Language Department
Our Japanese Language Department consists of two teachers and an assistant who work in collaboration with each other to deliver the Japanese curriculum across the primary age range. The primary curriculum is internally constructed and includes elements of the Japanese Kokugo as well as Japanese cultural experiences.
Candidate Requirements

Someone who is creative, collaborative, internationally-minded, who is eager to teach Japanese to learners from different backgrounds and work alongside a supportive, global community.
You will be perfect for this role if you have:
- Experience of teaching primary aged learners.
- An understanding of the opportunities and challenges of teaching Japanese language learners (both
native and non native speakers.)
- Confident subject knowledge to facilitate challenge for all learners and has experience with
teaching mixed ability classes.
- Enthusiasm and commitment to support the health and well-being of all learners.
- The ability to work well as part of a close-knit team but to also be self motivated and proactive
- Strong English language skills (business level.)
- Confident IT skills. An understanding of Google Workspaces will be an advantage.
Key Areas of Responsibility Teaching and Learning
- Plan and teach Japanese units of learning and deliver individual lessons at designated levels, across all primary age groups from Year 1 to Year 6
- Have a secure knowledge of Japanese language learning.
- Demonstrate effective planning, teaching organisation
- Provide learners with regular feedback, both orally and written and plan opportunities for learners to respond to the feedback.
- Monitor individual learner achievement and respond accordingly.
- Communicate effectively with parents with regard to students’ achievements and well-being.
- Actively promote the wellbeing of all students and uphold safeguarding and child protection
procedures within school.
- Develop as a professional educator, supporting oneself and colleagues in a manner in keeping with the philosophy and the values of the School.
Other Roles
- Participate in weekly supervision according to the duty schedule.
- Participate in whole school and specialist team meetings.
- Provide weekly cover lessons as designated on the timetable.
- Run, or assist in running, extra-curricular activities.
- Complete duties around the school in accordance with the duty rota.
- Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school.
