Job Description
Job Purpose
- To provide clinically effective, person centred and evidence-based physical therapy assessment and intervention to a caseload of students
- To provide support and training to teaching staff with regard to physical development, including training workshops and training specific to individual learners and/or environments.
The Physical Therapist/Physiotherapist will be expected to work in collaboration with other QLST professionals and will need to maintain links with a variety of bodies. These will include:
- Students and their parents/carers and advocates
- School staff
- Other professionals working with students.
Core Responsibilities
- Assess and provide therapeutic input to students with physical difficulties, including initial assessments, annual reviews, transition support, individual and group therapy programmes.
- Independently manage and prioritise tasks to meet the Physical Therapy requirements of students.
- Manage liaison with the family and all involved professionals as appropriate to the management of provision for a child.
- Collaborative working with other members of the QLST team to support complex needs in a multi-disciplinary approach.
- Keep accurate and informative case notes in line with professional standards.
- Develop and maintain the skills and knowledge required of a specialist Physical Therapist with children in a school setting including appropriate screening techniques, assessments, and interventions.
- Identify, develop and deliver in-school training for education staff, other professionals, students and parents/carers and modify training packages according to the needs of training participants.
- Contribute to resource development work in support of QLST hub-based practice in collaboration with colleagues supporting inclusion.
- Lead meetings by discussing individual students’ needs.
- Attend Consultations, Review Meetings, Team Meetings, and training sessions, and contribute to the development and delivery of Physical Therapy at QLST Hub.
- Demonstrate the ability to reflect on practice with peers and mentors, and identify own strengths and development needs.
- Adapt practice to meet individual student circumstances and highlight the need to vary or differentiate practice to the QLST Hub Manager or support staff so that there is effective sharing of learning from practice.
- Demonstrate a continual commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Demonstrate a continual commitment to the promotion of diversity initiatives in line with QLST policy and procedures.

The successful candidate will have:
- Knowledge of a range of relevant physical therapy interventions and assessment tools.
- Ability to translate policies and research into practice

Qualification requirements:
- Recognised Physical Therapy/Physiotherapy degree or masters.
- Experience of working with children with physical, social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
