Job Purpose: The Montessori School of Tokyo is currently seeking an experienced Middle or High School administrator to build a High School connected to our existing program in Tokyo. The successful candidate will begin the work of planning the High School program in Tokyo in 2019 with an anticipated opening date for the High School of fall 2020.

The Montessori School of Tokyo has grown from a single primary classroom to a school of 160 students serving children ages 2 - 15. We are looking forward to our next phase of development as we work towards opening a progressive High School to serve internationally minded families in Tokyo (more background on the vision for the High School below).

There will be two phases of the work.

2019 - 2020:
- Oversight and ongoing development of our current Middle School program. This includes work with parents, students, faculty, and co-curricular staff
- Developing a staffing plan for the High School
- Creating a coherent curriculum plan for the Middle and High School programs
Designing an environment to meet the needs of the adolescent program
- Hiring faculty for the Middle and High School programs
- Overseeing the admissions process and ensuring appropriate enrollment

2020 - ongoing
- Ensuring a High School program that is a natural extension of our Montessori roots
- Oversight of the Middle and High School programs including working with parents, students, faculty, and co-curricular staff
- Hiring faculty and adding positions as the High School grows.
- Oversight of admissions process and enrollment targets
- Ongoing Staff development and training

Requirements:
- Committed to respectful work with adolescents
- Strong organizational skills
- Experience working with project based learning or other progressive education models.
- Understanding of Social Emotional components of learning.
- Experience building communities.
- Ability to lead with integrity towards a shared vision
- Bachelor’s Degree
- At least five years working as a teacher or administrator in Middle or High Schools
- Montessori adolescent training available for the successful candidate.
