Thank you for your interest in joining the team at St. Michael’s International School. When vacancies arise we advertise in the Times Educational Supplement from early December, selection activities and Skype interviews take place in January. Initial contracts are offered for two years and begin on 1st August.

Applicants for teaching positions should hold a UK teaching qualification with Qualified Teacher Status or an international equivalent. Applicants should have at least two (2) years teaching experience in a UK or British International School. Applicants with IEYC/IPC experience will be at an advantage.

Faculty Overview

St. Michael's International School employs highly-qualified, experienced class teachers, assisted by specialist teachers and full-time class assistants. The teaching staff comes from a variety of places, but mainly the UK.

All of our class and specialist teachers hold a UK teaching qualification or an international equivalent with at least two year's experience in a British or British international school.

The school keeps abreast of curriculum development, new teaching methodologies and research, and shares and uses these in various training days throughout the year. Currently, SMIS staff are focusing on the pedagogy of the International Primary Curriculum (IPC.)

When the teaching position at St. Michael’s came up I jumped at the chance to work in Kobe. I thought that living in the Kansai region would give me an authentic Japanese experience and ample opportunities to explore further the wonderful country that is Japan. It is now almost 2 months since I moved to Kobe and I feel fully settled in the city and at St. Michael’s.
