Job Summary:
The PYP Homeroom Teacher plays a vital role in designing and delivering a high quality, inquiry based learning experience aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP).
Teaching and Learning:
- Plan, deliver, and assess engaging inquiry based lessons aligned with the IB PYP framework.
- Use a variety of teaching strategies to address diverse learning needs, abilities, and cultural backgrounds.
- Design and use a variety of formative and summative assessments to guide instruction.
- Engage students in decision making processes and goal setting to foster ownership of learning and behavior.
- Create a safe, caring, and inclusive classroom climate that encourages risk taking, collaboration, and emotional involvement in learning.
Collaborative Curriculum Development:
- Collaborate with colleagues, PYP Coordinator and leadership team in planning, and the delivery of the curriculum, ensuring alignment with PYP framework and the school's strategic goals.
- Develop and maintain weekly and long term plans that align with the PYP scope and sequence, transdisciplinary themes, and school priorities.
- Ensure clarity in classroom routines, expectations, and behavioral plans to enable students to take greater responsibility for their learning.
Classroom Environment and Resource Management:
- Create a stimulating and organized physical learning environment, incorporating displays and resources that reflect and celebrate student learning.
- Incorporate technology effectively into the curriculum to enhance learning outcomes and engage students.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment that encourages inquiry and respect.
Assessment and Reporting:
- Apply a range of formative and summative assessment strategies to monitor student progress.
- Ensure assessment is authentic, embedded in everyday learning, and aligned with clear expectations shared with students.
- Collaborate with the Student Support Team, implementing Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and supporting students' diverse needs.
Community and Student Engagement:
- Foster a school culture of respect, identity, and pride among students, parents, and colleagues.
- Actively participate in decision making processes, school improvement initiatives, and collaborative planning meetings.
- Support school events, enrichment programs, and extracurricular activities, contributing to the school’s vibrant community spirit.
- Supervise students during designated times, including morning duty, break, lunch, and special activities.
Professional Development and Professional Responsibilities:
- Participate actively in professional development, accepting and acting on professional feedback.
- Stay updated on current research and developments in PYP pedagogy and best practices in teaching.
- Share expertise and innovative strategies with colleagues through in school training, collaborative planning, and professional learning communities.
- Perform other related duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned by Leadership Team.
