Kansai International Academy has 9 campuses in Kansai and 6 in Tokyo with Kindergartens and Early Learning Centers, and 1 Elementary School in Kobe and Tokyo, 1 Secondary School in Kobe. The Kobe campus is authorized for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB/PYP), Middle Years Programme (IB/MYP) and for the IB Diploma (IB/DP), and is the accredited CIS (Council of International Schools) school.

Kansai International Academy is currently looking to employ an educator for the role of a full-time ESL teacher across a number of grades. Classes involve two contact periods per grade, four times per week, for a total of eight contact periods of 50 minutes each. The ESL teacher will work specifically with students requiring additional and remedial English instruction and support. ESL classes are typically run by the ESL teacher alone. The ESL teacher will also be expected to address students’ specific language needs, in concert with the homeroom teacher. Additionally, the ESL teacher will attend at least one Unit of Inquiry class for each grade class per week in order to provide language support to students.

We invite candidates who are serious about improving students’ English ability and enabling their participation in all areas of school life as well as promoting full access to the KIA AERO curriculum. Preference will be given to those professionals who have teaching and collaborative planning experience, have worked on curriculum development, and have an awareness and desire to work within the inquiry-based International Baccalaureate (IB) education framework, and who have a clear understanding of and proven ability to address the needs of Japanese learners of English. Furthermore, the successful candidate will be highly personable and adaptable, having strong problem-solving skills with a clear record of educational success in the classroom.

Kansai International Academy was established in 2003, offering an English-Japanese bilingual program from our Early Learning Center to Secondary School in Kobe, Japan. We are an IB PYP / DP school, following the Japanese academic year calendar, and our Secondary School students study one year abroad during their Year 9. KIA is committed to creating a safe and nurturing learning environment that fosters the development of emotionally resilient and open-minded learners, inspiring them to collaborate and take responsibility for their own words and actions as individuals and as members of the community. We are expecting to have our first G12 graduate students in March 2022.
